INCLUDE Platform

In December 2016, INCLUDE will co-host several interesting events. On 15 December, INCLUDE will host a round table on the theme ‘productive employment’ at the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs in The Hague. Many international experts will participate in this meeting, which is centred around the question: How can policymakers best promote quality and decent jobs in Africa? Some of the sub questions that will be discussed are:

  • Which sectors are most promising for women and youth, and what additional support is needed to provide employment for them?
  • To what extent should policymakers focus on small-scale agriculture, manufacturing, ICT, services or infrastructure as sources of employment?
  • How can dynamic entrepreneurship be promoted in each of these sectors?

More information can be found here.

Other events

The Policy-Knowledge Community on productive employment for youth in extractive industries in Mozambique will host an intersector forum and roundtable in Maputo, Mozambique on 7 and 8 December. This meeting will leverage the activities organized earlier in 2016. More information can be found here.

INCLUDE is also co-organizing two meetings with the Food & Business Knowledge Platform (F&BKP) on employment opportunities for youth in agricultural transformation. The first is the Vijverberg session, which will be held at The Hague on 7 December. This session will have a special focus on knowledge sharing, business opportunities and employment creation in the agri-food sector. AgrProFocus is also a co-organizer of this event. More information can be found here.

The second event is a lunch seminar at the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs in The Hague on 8 December. The keynote speaker at both of these events will be Jim Sumberg from the Institute of Development Studies. The lunch seminar will also build on the results of three country studies undertaken by INCLUDE, F&BKP and AgriProFocus on youth unemployment and food security (in Kenya, Mali, and Ghana). The results will be presented at both meetings. More information on the lunch seminar can be found here.
