Six thematic areas, shaping inclusive development.

INCLUDE works across six interconnected thematic areas: youth employment, green and just transitions, food systems, digitalisation, skills development, and inclusive governance. Together, these themes reflect some of the challenges and opportunities shaping inclusive development in Africa. They also show how questions of work, livelihoods, sustainability, technology, skills, food security, and decision-making are deeply connected.

Across these areas, INCLUDE brings together research, policy, and practice to generate and share evidence on what works for inclusive development in Africa. We examine who benefits from development processes, who is left behind, and which policies, investments, and partnerships can help create more equitable outcomes. By focusing on young people, women, and other groups that are often excluded, our work aims to support knowledge, dialogue, and action that contribute to more inclusive and sustainable futures.

African Policy Dialogues

Initiated by INCLUDE’s platform members, African Policy Dialogues (APDs) are networks of policy actors that aim to encourage the use of existing and new knowledge in policy making in Africa.

African policy dialogues are networks of policy actors who generate knowledge and use it to inform and influence development policies and practices. The networks identify priority policy gaps for which knowledge is required, collaboratively generate knowledge and use diverse strategies to enhance its uptake. By incorporating relevant actors and their priorities, APDs enhance ownership of knowledge and policy decisions, which increases uptake. The overall purpose of policy dialogues is to use knowledge in policy processes that ultimately leads to inclusive development and poverty reduction.
