Our Approach to Skills Development
As Africa’s economies undergo rapid transformation, ensuring that people have the skills needed to access decent work has become increasingly important. New opportunities are emerging through digitalisation, green transitions, regional trade integration, and infrastructure investments. However, many education and training systems struggle to keep pace with these changes. Strengthening Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) and other skills development systems is therefore essential to ensure that economic transformation contributes to inclusive development.
At INCLUDE, we explore how TVET and skills systems can become more responsive to changing labour market needs while also becoming more inclusive. We examine how training systems can better connect young people to emerging economic opportunities, with particular attention to the inclusion of women and groups that are often excluded from quality education, training, and employment. By generating and synthesising evidence, we aim to inform policies and investments that equip Africa’s youth with the skills needed for the current labour market and the future of work.
