About the policy dialogue

Despite the formulation of policies to create employment and the increasing evidence generated by research on the challenges involved in creating adequate jobs for those joining the labour market in Africa, the extent to which existing knowledge has informed and influenced employment policies and programmes is unknown. Researchers also find it difficult to reach policy actors and influence policy processes with their findings.
This African Policy Dialogue aims to establish Utafiti Sera, a community of researchers, policy-makers, practitioners and other actors to deliberate on and use research evidence to inform and influence policy and action on employment creation in agriculture and agro-processing.
Objectives
  • Build and sustain a vibrant policy-knowledge community on employment creation in agriculture and agro-processing
  • Synthesize new and existing research evidence on agro-processing employment creation and make this evidence available to policy actors
  • Engage key policy-makers and practitioners through direct contact, policy advocacy, and use of productive employment and inclusive growth champions
  • Provide a platform for researchers, policy-makers and practitioners to exchange ideas and learning on the blockages in agro-employment and the promotion of inclusive growth.
