Maggie Leung holds a B.A. degree from Dartmouth College (USA), an M.A. from the University of Minnesota (USA) and a doctorate from the University of Bremen (Germany). Before joining Utrecht University in 2010, she had worked as a lecturer at The Chinese University of Hong Kong and The University of Hong Kong. Her teaching focuses on globalisation, mobilities and development. She has been engaged in research covering diverse themes in social, cultural and development geography, including mobilities, diaspora and transnationalism, identities and belonging, concepts of development, cultural heritage, tourism and migrant entrepreneurship. She leads the research consortium ‘Feeder Road Development for Inclusive Productive Employment’.
