Democratic developmentalism may offer solutions
In this policy brief, the Local Governance Practioners’ Forum, one of the African Policy Dialogues (APDs) in Ghana, discusses why decentralisation in Ghana has failed to enhance service provision, citizen participation, address local needs, performance and accountability. This is because the devolution of power, resources and functions to local governments is yet to be accomplished. To address these challenges, the brief recommends ‘democratic developmentalism’, an approach to devolution which prioritises economic transformation through elected local government leadership.
