The Partnership for African Social and Governance Research (PASGR) in collaboration with Centre for African Bio-Entrepreneurship (CABE) will host a one day forum on Utafiti Sera (Research-Policy Community) on ‘’Employment Creation in Sugar Sector in Kenya: Challenging the political economy dilemmas’’. Supported by INCLUDE, Utafiti Sera was launched on 7th June 2016 in a forum that brought together 38 stakeholders in wage employment in agriculture and agro-processing in Kenya.

The purpose of the planned forum is to provide an opportunity for researchers, policy makers and practitioners to have an in-depth discussions on employment creation in sugar sector. The forum will focus on the implications public policy and the role that Utafiti Sera can play. About 35 policy makers, practitioners, and researchers are expected to participate in the forum. Invited participants include Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, county governments, public and private sugar manufacturers, universities, research organisations, trade union, media, non-governmental organisations and key international organisations.

Expected Outcomes of the Forum
1. Consolidate on the first Utafiti Sera forum on employment creation;
2. Draw activities that will lead into policy uptake on research evidence and follow-up action; and
3. Better understanding on how Utafiti Sera can inform and influence policies and programmes in the sugar sector to promote employment
