The growth and expansion of Information and Communications Technologies (ICTs) in Kenya is viewed as an avenue for employment creation. ICT initiatives for job creation include ICT skills training and development, technology hubs and incubators, ICT-enabled entrepreneurial ventures and job matching platforms and sensitizing youth about available opportunities. These initiatives have led to creation of jobs in the ICT sector although the number of jobs created are few compared to entrants to the labour market. This means that ICTs for job creation remain necessary, but not sufficient, to address youth unemployment in Kenya. To enhance job creation in the ICT sector, capacity and skills gaps, disparities in ICT infrastructure and services in different urban areas and between urban and rural areas, and challenges in the ICT start-up incubation ecosystem in Kenya should be addressed.
