Tanja Hendriks is an anthropologist interested in storytelling, the politics of language, and the migration and livelihoods of youth in Sub-Saharan Africa. She currently resides in Malawi where she collects stories of youth about their dreams, economic activities and livelihoods. In addition, she works as a research assistant for Saskia Vossenberg, PhD researcher at the Centre for Frugal Innovation in Africa (CFIA). This research focuses on women’s entrepreneurship and technological innovations for business growth.

Thank you for contributing! Both of your observations resonate strongly with the stories I have heard and the experiences I have had in Malawi. I expect that if a similar research as the one you have conducted in Uganda would be done in the Malawian context, similar patterns and linkages of migration and entrepreneurship would be found. Feminization of labor migration definitely remains an interesting topic for future research!
